The Pilgrim is not dancing in the streets (much to the relief of his Michigan hometown) over the Democratic takeover of Congress. As Obama said in the Washington Post article referenced in a post yesterday, "it's not enough to just change the players. We have to change the game. Americans put their faith in Democrats because they want us to restore their faith in government -- and that means more than window dressing when it comes to ethics reform."
Right now, there seems to be a little bit of a cult of personality developing among the Democrats. The NY Times called the celebration in the House, 'Pelosi-palooza.' (A humorous phrase.) Democratic committee chairs now seem eager to launch investigations reliving the past, settling scores, and satisfying their over-sized egos.
The nation needs to move forward to a more moral future. What good does it do, for example, for the Democrats to investigate the deceptions that led the US to war in Iraq if they continue to endorse that war by allowing the President to increase the troop commitment and extend the immoral war?
We shall see if the Democrats put the cult of personality behind them, or make it their modus operandi. If they do the later, then their majority status will likely be short-lived.
